Understanding courage

Hi, Jesus loves you.

Today, I want to share some of the lessons I learnt from Bishop Abioye’s book “Courage for Conquest” I believe it will minister to you too.

——————————————————————–

“Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them. Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:6-7, 9 (NKJV)

God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power – power to be courageous and do exploits!

Many people Have dreams they have failed to actualize; they are tormented by fear and vicissitudes of life. They are like the rocking chair that is in motion but gains no movement; all because they lack what it takes to possess their possessions. Courage is the most needed tool for victory.

Courage is the principal requirement for exploits in life. It must have been what Caleb possessed that enabled him to give a positive report on the Promised Land (even though the giants were still there), when the others gave evil report that they were not able to possess the land (Numbers 13:30-33)

God has appointed you for greatness, but it does not come on the platter of gold; you need to step out with courage and possess it. If you must be a conqueror you have an inevitable need for courage. Men of courage are men of conquest.

In Joshua 17:14-16, the children of Joseph said they were great but they were not ready to venture out and possess the land given to them. That is how many Christians are today. They make so much noise about their inheritance of greatness, yet they lack the courage to go out and conquer the mountain before them.

DEFINITIONS OF COURAGE

Dictionary definition:

  1. Courage – the quality of mind or spirit that enables a person to face difficulty, danger, pain, etc., without fear.

Bishop Abioye’s definitions:

  1. Courage is an untiring and undefeatable attitude born out of determination.
  2. Ability to take steps in the face of imminent opposition, obstacles, hardships and difficulties
  3. It is the ability to retain your language when circumstances want to force you to change it.
  4. It is the strength to stand against the odds of life with a determination to attain your goal in life
  5. It is the spirit of faith that judges God faithful and declares that what He has promised He is able to do and will definitely do

FOUNDATION OF COURAGE

Knowing who you are in Christ, appreciating and acknowledging what He has made you to be is the foundation of courage.

With this awareness, Paul could say very boldly, “I can do all things…” (Philip 4:13)

You are not a small person! You have great power! Accept it, believe it, think it, and act it! You have the power to tread on serpents and scorpions and nothing will happen to you (Luke 10:19). You are born to win.

Declare boldly, “I am great and of great power”

WHY YOU NEED COURAGE

  1. You need courage to be a pacesetter. (1 Corinthians 11:1-2)
  2. To excel and make a name. (1 Samuel 18:6-7)
  3. Courage to take charge. (2 Chronicles 19:11)
  4. Fulfillment of divine promises. (Joshua 1:5-9)

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT COURAGE

  1. Courage does not count the number of falls one has. (Micah 7:8,Psalm 37:24, Prov 24:16)
  2. It takes courage to live life to the full (2 Timothy 4:7-8)
  3. Courage can turn you into a celebrity in your generation and generations to come. (1 Samuel 18:6-7)
  4. Everything in life calls for courage (Ecclesiastes 11:6)
  5. Courage is the path that champions take. (Genesis 12:1-4)
  6. Every courageous step has some degree of risk attached to it. (Numbers 13:17-20)
  7. Courage helps a man to see the good side of every situation. ( Genesis 50:15-21)
  8. Courage compels the ground to open up to you. (Genesis 26:2,6,12)
  9. It makes you sensitive to opportunities. (Numbers 13:20)

Courage truly is an indispensable quality to possess in life. God had to tell Joshua over and over again to be strong and courageous if he was to succeed in fulfilling his assignment. Remember, God appointed Joshua to take the children of Israel to their promised land, yet Joshua still needed courage to succeed. Therefore, you too can’t succeed without courage.

So today, God is saying to you also, be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.
