MARRIAGE: AN HONOURABLE EXPERIENCE

Pastor Faith Oyedepo, on marriage. I know you will be blessed by it.

Today via the Word of God, I will be teaching on “Marriage – An Honourable Experience”.  Marriage is the foundation of the family and the family is close to the heart of God.  The analogy between the church and the family in Ephesians 5, shows the place of the family in the heart of God.

Marriage is very close to the heart of the Father.  That is why this end-time, before Jesus returns, there will be perfection of the families of believers that will allow the power of the Word of God to bring them to the place of excellence and honour.  I believe your marriage will be a part of it in Jesus’ name.

In Hebrews 13:4 the Bible says: Marriage is honourable in all and the bed undefiled, the whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.  Marriage is honourable not only in some things, but in all things.  It is not instituted by God to bring you into a life of misery, but to bring honour to your life – spirit, soul, and body.

HOW DOES MARRIAGE BRING HONOUR TO THESE THREE AREAS OF YOUR LIFE?

SPIRITUALLY: The Bible says in Proverbs 27:17: Iron sharpenth iron.…  As long as you keep helping each other, your spiritual life will always be better than today.  Personally, I know what my spiritual life was like, before I got married and what it is now. The difference is like heaven to earth and that is the same testimony God wants to give to you.

Some Christians say, “When I was single, my spiritual life was better.  I was able to concentrate on the things of God, but now that I am married, I don’t know what is going on”.  If you are in that condition, I must tell you, that is not God’s will for you.  God did not put you into marriage to make your spiritual life suffer.  No matter what negative things you have heard about marriage, or even seen around you, or read in books, you can count on God’s Word which says that marriage is honourable in all.  If something is evil, can you say it is honourable at the same time?  The answer is ‘No’. The fact that you have been having ugly experiences in marriage, does not cancel the Word of the Lord.  Marriage is honourable in all, the devil notwithstanding. 

MENTALLY:  Marriage is meant to bring honour in the realm of your mind. By this, I mean the way you reason, or think, your affections, desires and the kind of choices that you make.  That is why Ecclesiastes 4:9-11 says: Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.  For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he falleth; for he hath not another to help him up.  Again, if two lie together, then they have heat: but how can one be warm alone?  As a married couple, both of you are expected to put your heads together, to rub your minds one with another.  As you do that, iron is sharpening iron and life is getting better for you.  So even in the realm of your mind, marriage is meant to bring honour to you.

One way to rub your mind with that of your spouse, either your husband or wife, is through communication.  If you are living under the same roof like cat and rat, with nothing in common, no discussion of ideas and each one going in different directions, you cannot affect each other. It is possible for two pieces of iron to lie together; but as long as there is no rubbing of one with the other, no sharpening effect will take place.  It is not enough to be married and live together, sleep on the same bed and go to the same church.  If there is no avenue to rub your minds together, you are not marriage partners, but mere roommates!  If communication has broken down in your home, God will restore it in the name of Jesus.

Don’t just take decisions on your own, rub your minds with each other for betterment.

PHYSICALLY: Marriage is also meant to bring you honour physically. It is not meant to demote, but to promote you. For instance, when you enjoy your husband’s support, it is like a supernatural force giving you the power and the physical strength to succeed.  That is the honour that God has designed for marriage finding effect and fulfillment in your life.

Honour in marriage is the heritage of every believer. Therefore, if you are not born again and want to become one, then accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Saviour by saying this prayer: Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to you today as a sinner.  I believe you died and rose on the third day for my sins.  I accept you as my Lord and Saviour.  Make me a child of God today.  Thank you for accepting me into your kingdom.

Congratulations!  You are now born again and a child of God.
