Do you know that there’s power in Jesus blood? Every covenant is sealed with blood, and in the case of The New Testament, it was sealed with the blood of Jesus. The Christian faith is anchored on the shed blood of Jesus, and an understanding of its power and the benefits will help you apply your faith to it .
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. (Revelation 12:11 NKJV)
But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, the hidden wisdom which
God ordained before the ages for our glory, which none of the rulers of this age knew; for had they known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. (I Corinthians 2:7-8 NKJV)
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him. As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will live because of Me. (John 6:53-57 NKJV)
In the Old Testament, almost all things were purified with animal blood, and there was no remission without shedding of blood (Hebrews 9:22). The blood was used for cleansing, sanctification and consecration of things and people. The blood was very important for their continual existence and because the blood of animals had no capacity to take sin away, the blood of animals were shed repeatedly ( Hebrews 10: 1-4)
However, when Jesus came, He shed His blood once and for all. For by one offering He perfected forever those who are being sanctified, and in so doing fulfilled the will of God – Hebrews 10:5-7, 14. Sin consciousness is now totally removed from those cleansed by His blood.
The power in the blood of Jesus Christ
There’s power in Jesus blood, otherwise, God would not have allowed His Son’s blood to be shed. Apart from your sins being washed away by Christ’s blood and your conscience being purged of dead works by the blood (Hebrews 9:14), you also have a lot to harness from the power of Christ’s shed blood, which if the rulers of this age knew they would not have crucified Him.
# Access to the Holiest of all
Before the death of Christ, only the high priest was allowed to enter the Holiest of all once a year with blood, which he offers for himself and for the people’s sins. (Hebrews 9:6-8 NKJV). But now, anyone can enter it by the blood of Jesus (Hebrews 10:19). You can boldly come into the throne of grace in prayer and obtain mercy and grace by Christ’s blood. You only need to accept the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross for your sins for you to qualify to enter the Holiest by His blood.
Christ through His blood, reconciled man back to God and once again man can fellowship with God without the sin barrier. You are now justified by His blood; you are a new creation, old things are passed away, behold all things have become new (2 Corinthians 5:17-19).
# Victory
You overcome the devil by the blood of the Lamb, Jesus Christ (Revelations12:11). That is why the bible says that if the rulers (the enemy and his agents) knew what was coming for them by the death of Christ they wouldn’t have crucified the Lord of glory. Jesus died as a man (flesh and blood) so that through His death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage (Hebrews 2:14-15)
Many people are suffering for fear of death which is the enemy’s weapon against them, but when they are free of it through Christ, they would take the right steps and walk away from the challenges. The power in the blood of Jesus Christ weakens the enemy and he would have no choice but to let go of your goods and blessings.
When Jesus died as a man, He qualified to go and take back from the devil the authority and power he took from Adam. He went to Hell and took the keys of Hell and of Death from the enemy and freed the saints who were in bondage of death (Matthew 27:52-53, Revelations 1:17-18). As many as receive Him are freed from bondage.
# Eternal life
This is the ultimate desire of a Christian believer (John 3:16). When you receive the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, you also receive everlasting life with God. There’s life after death and the blood of Jesus gives you access to life with God and escape from life with the devil. But this is not the eternal life God is talking about.
John 17:3 tells us that eternal life is knowing God, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom God sent. It is having a close, intimate, personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ whom He sent.
Everlasting life is not what you wait till you get to heaven to get, it is what you start having once you believe in Jesus (John 3:36), and God desires that you have a personal relationship with Him.
Adam had eternal life but lost it when He disobeyed God. God told them not to eat nor touch the fruit of the tree which was in the midst of the garden, lest they die (Genesis 3:2-3). And when they did, they didn’t die the physical death but a spiritual one. They lost the intimate relationship they had with God before the fall. And, this was what God restored through the blood of Jesus, that whosoever believes in Jesus will not perish but have everlasting life. There’s power in Jesus blood!
