God's way-One step at a time

Hi, Jesus loves you

Can you image a child learning how to walk today and tomorrow he is driving? I know you can’t imagine it. But that is what many people expect God to do for them. They want to take giant steps beyond God’s way.

One step at a time is God’s style and it always gets you to the peak if you stick to the Lord. This post gives the reasons why this way of the Almighty is the best approach to life.

A bishop then must be blameless…not a novice, lest being puffed up with pride he fall into the same condemnation as the devil – 1 Timothy 3:2, 6 (emphasis mine, NKJV)

But the word of the Lord was to them, “Precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little,” Isaiah 28:13

I will not drive them out from before you in one year, lest the land become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for you. Little by little I will drive them out from before you, until you have increased, and you inherit the land – Exodus 23:29-30 (NKJV)

Multiple promotions are desirable but not at the detriment of one’s future or destiny. A father, no matter how much he loves his six year old boy, will not allow him to drive his car. Also, no pupil starts primary one or standard one today and next session he is in the secondary school. It is always one step at a time. This is God’s way and God, our creator, is the originator of this way.

Every newborn baby always starts with milk and gradually graduates to solids (1 Peter 2:2). This principle applies both to spiritual and physical growth. Also, in leadership positions, whether spiritual or physical, nobody puts a novice in leadership position. Everyone needs to grow into any new and higher position.

However, some people do not want to go through this growth process and so they involve themselves in dishonest and unethical activities that end up in destruction (Proverbs 28:20). While others wind up in complaining, murmuring and being offended in God, instead of going through the pain of growing into the position they desire.

King Solomon said in Ecclesiastes 3:1 that there is time for everything. Furthermore, he that believes will not make haste, (Isaiah 28:16). It is honour and glory to go through the growth process because what you learn remains with you forever (Romans 5:3-4), no man can take that from you.

One step at a time is not a delay tactics. There is a purpose for it and it is beneficial to you. God is a God of purpose and He never does anything without a reason.

Why one step at a time?

1.       It increase your sustainability

It is one thing to get to a new level or position, and another thing to sustain that level or position. You need to be able to balance every other aspect of your life with that new position. For instance, your walk with God and family should not suffer because you had a double promotion in your place of work.

However, God will give you a double promotion if you qualify for it. The growth process prepares you for the double promotion.

You may ask me now how you are to qualify for it. It is through:

                                I.            Increasing your knowledge level – God said in Hosea 4:6 that His people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. The more knowledge you have the more your ability to sustain the new position.

Knowledge about what, you may still ask? First and foremost, your knowledge about God, His word and how He operates. This is the foundation for any other meaningful knowledge. And if the foundation be destroyed what can the righteous do, (Psalm 11:3)

Secondly, you need a good knowledge of your desired position. If it requires getting a certificate, go for it. Prepare yourself (Proverbs 24:27), let it not be that you missed that position because you didn’t know enough or you didn’t have a tangible proof of your qualification.

II.            Increasing your faith level – It is impossible to please God without faith, (Hebrews 11:6). It  takes faith for God to move you to your next level and to sustain you there. The word of God remains the authenticate source of faith. Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God, (Romans 10:17)

 2.       It keeps away the beasts

Another reason for one step at a time is to keep beasts from over-powering you. In Exodus 23:29-30, God chose to drive the enemies of Israel little by little so that the land will not become desolate and the beasts of the field become too numerous for them. He wanted them to increase and grow into fully occupying the land.

There are many beasts around, visible and invisible and unless you grow to be bigger and stronger than them, they will encroach into your territory and may take over. Therefore for every new position you need a new level of strength to match.

The sons of Sceva in Acts 19:13-16 assumed a position that they had no matching strength for and the demons in the possessed man over-powered them. The evil spirit said, “Jesus I know, Paul I know but who are you?”

Now the strength I am writing about is not in yourself but in the Lord and in the power of His might, (Ephesians 6:10). This is because your human strength is limited and cannot deliver you from the beasts. Truly, by strength shall no man prevail, (1 Samuel 2:9)

The acquisition of this strength boils down again to increase in the knowledge of God and His word, and also increase in your faith in God. Surely, God’s way prevails anytime and anywhere.

In conclusion, as much as God loves you and wants the best and has prepared them for you, you must grow into your inheritance in Christ. And it will take one step at a time to get there. But the speed with which you will possess your possession depends on you. Therefore start today and you will surely get to your desired position.
