It’s one thing to know why you should seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness. And yet, another thing to know how to do so. However, the good news is that the Lord cannot ask us to do what is impossible. So, this post tells us how to seek first the Lord’s kingdom.

Introduction

Many Christians find it difficult to put God first in their lives. This is because they haven’t learned how to do so. And the scripture says that we can do nothing without Christ. And another scripture says that it’s not by our power or might but by the Spirit of God that we can do anything. Therefore, the Lord will work in you to do His will.

I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing – John 15:5 (NKJV).

So he answered and said to me: “This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the LORD of hosts – Zechariah 4:6 (NKJV).

For it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure – Philippians 2:13 (NKJV).

How To Seek First The Kingdom Of God And His Righteousness

1. Be Born again – empowered by the Holy Spirit

The first place to start is to give your life to Jesus and make Him your Saviour and the Lord of your life. This is what it means to be born again. And it’s important you do this first because you can’t seek the kingdom of God when you’re in the devil’s kingdom. Also, when you receive Christ, you receive the Holy Spirit too, who empowers you to do the will of God.

Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”Jesus answered, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God.” – John 3:3, 5 (NKJV).

2. Give yourself to the study of the word and prayer

Truly, you can’t seek the kingdom of whom you don’t know, not to mention His righteousness. However, you will know Him as you study His word and spend time with Him in prayers. This is because the word of God is Him and reveals Him to as many people who care to study it. Also, in prayer, you get to communicate with Him and sharpen yourself in His presence for every good work.

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God – John 1:1 (NKJV).

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth – 2 Timothy 2:15 (KJV).

As iron sharpens iron, So a man sharpens the countenance of his friend – Proverbs 27:17 (NKJV).

3. In faith

You have to seek the kingdom of God in faith, for without faith you can’t please the Lord. Also, in faith, you’re able to overcome anxiety and focus on seeking first the kingdom of the Lord. Again, you need to believe that everything will surely be added to you as you seek the kingdom first. Otherwise, you might quit when you don’t immediately receive your heart desires.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him – Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV).

4. In Love

Everything God does for us is simply because of His love for us, including our redemption in Christ. So, you also need to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness because of your love for Him. Truly, you can only continue to seek God’s kingdom despite the challenges you may encounter if you’re doing so in love. In addition, seeking God’s kingdom shows that you love Him, and you desire to please Him. And those who love God obey His commandments, which include seeking first His Kingdom.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life – John 3:16 (NKJV).

He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him – John 14:21 (NKJV).

5. With diligence

You’re to seek the kingdom of God with diligence, for the Lord rewards those who diligently seek Him. So, you need to put in enough effort in seeking God and doing His Will. Also, when you diligently see Him, He will cause you to stand before kings, and not unknown men.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him – Hebrews 11:6 (NKJV).

Do you see a man who excels in his work? He will stand before kings; He will not stand before unknown men – Proverbs 22:29 (NKJV).

6. Whatever He tells you to do, do it

Christ is your Master, and so you’re to obey Him. And you’re to do what He tells you and not what you want. So, in seeking God’s kingdom, you do as you’re commanded, and not as you wish. For it’s only when you obey Christ that you see results and get rewards.

His mother said to the servants, “Whatever He says to you, do it. Jesus said to them, “Fill the waterpots with water.” And they filled them up to the brim. And He said to them, “Draw some out now, and take it to the master of the feast.” And they took it. When the master of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine, and did not know where it came from (but the servants who had drawn the water knew), the master of the feast called the bridegroom – John 2:5, 7-9 (NKJV).

7. Seek for the advancement of His kingdom

There are many areas to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness and serve Him. However, the Holy Spirit is to lead you to which one to engage in to advance His kingdom. These areas include, but are not limited to, praying for the advancement of the kingdom and winning souls for Christ.

And this woman was a widow of about eighty-four years, who did not depart from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day – Luke 2:37 (NKJV).

Conclusion

So, this is how you can seek God’s kingdom. Hence, to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness acceptably you need to do it His way. Also, you need to be led by the Holy Spirit and do it by faith and in love. So, choose today to seek God first and be blessed.
