Idolatry, Beware!

Hi, Jesus loves you.

What is an idol to you? Can you clearly demarcate your passion and love for things or people and the worship of them? Sometimes, things that you adore, love to have or do, if care is not taken, can become gods to you. And gods crave to be worshiped and that, Man of God is idolatry! This post aims at exposing any idol in your life.

For you shall worship no other god; for the Lord, Whose name is Jealous, is a jealous (impassioned) God, (Exodus 34:14 AMP)

No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will stand by and be devoted to the one and despise and be against the other. You cannot serve God and mammon (deceitful riches, money, possessions, or whatever is trusted in). (Matthew 6:24 AMP)

God is a jealous God and cannot share His worship or glory with another. And you cannot serve God and mammon at the same time; for either you hate mammon and love God or you hate God and love mammon.

An idol is any material that is an object of worship, or any person or thing that is excessively and blindly adored. Also, it can be an idea or activity that consumes your whole being, time, energy and resources. In a summary, an idol is anything that takes the place of God in your life.

Therefore, idolatry is beyond the worship of images. It can be your work, spouse, children, that perfect idea and/or your material possessions. It is whatever that determines your level of joy and peace per time, other than God.

Now, the question is, “do you have any mammon or idol in your life?”

Idolatry sometime, is very subtle: difficult to detect or be grasped by the mind. It may initially start off as an innocent passion and subtly progress into worship. Interestingly, outwardly, it may be considered as an okay thing or a perfect service unto God but to God it is idolatry. Man of God beware!

God does not look at the outward appearance but considers the heart (1 Samuel 16:7): the motive behind every action. Is love of money or recognition at the root of that kingdom service? What is the cause of your disobeying God?

Furthermore, man of God, beware of covetousness for it is a form of idolatry Colossians 3:5) and likewise stubbornness, which is also as the sin of idolatry (1 Samuel 15:23). Is there anything God has told you to do and you strongly desire to do your own? It is stubbornness, idolatry, man of God!

Now, if you have examined yourself and there are things  or people who have taken the place of God in your life, do not be dismayed; for God is faithful and just to forgive your sins and cleanse you from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). Therefore, repent and sin no more!

How can one get rid of idols in his life?
