Do you wonder why it’s so important to seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness? Truly, the Lord is the God of purpose. And He wouldn’t ask us to do a thing if it’s not for a good cause. Even so, this instruction of God is for good. Therefore, in this post reasons to seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness are given.
Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you – Matthew 6:31-33 (NKJV).
Introduction
The commandments of the Lord are not grievous instructions. For the thoughts of God for us are not evil but good, to give us a future and a hope. And it’s obedience to His instructions that leads us to that great future and hope He has for us. However, we’re creatures of choice and can decide what to do and when to do it. So, to help us make the right choices, Christ instructed us to first seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness before any other thing. This will eventually help us to better prioritize the other things in our lives. So what else do you gain seeking God’s kingdom first?
Reasons To Seek First The Kingdom Of God And His Righteousness
1. Easy access to your heart desires in Christ.
Many are busy struggling to meet their needs, and in the process, they hurt people and many times themselves. Yet, there is a better and easier way to meet these needs without hurting anyone. This was what Christ offered to us through the instruction given in Matthew 6:33. As such, as you focus on doing the will of the Lord, God ensures that you lack nothing good. Truly, He knows that you have a need for these things and knows exactly how to get them across to you. This He will do without stress. For everything was created by Him and is under His command. So, He has no problem providing for you when you mind His kingdom.
2. Anxiety free life
You can’t focus on the Lord and still be anxious. This is because your faith in God and His ability to provide and take care of you is built up. And faith and anxiety don’t go together; you can only manifest one at a time. Also, the Prince of peace will keep you in perfect peace as you mind His kingdom.
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God – Hebrews 12:2 (NKJV).
You will keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You – Isaiah 26:3 (NKJV).
3. Eternal life
For you to totally seek the Father’s kingdom first, you will have to let go of some things. And Christ promised that you will have all those things back in hundredfold on earth, and then eternal life afterward. This is because as you seek God’s kingdom and His righteousness, you’re also preparing to spend eternity with Him.
So Jesus answered and said, “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time—houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions—and in the age to come, eternal life – Mark 10:29-30 (NKJV).
4. Close relationship with God
As you’re seeking the kingdom of God and His righteousness, you’re learning more of Him, and drawing close to Him. This is because you will spend more time in the word and prayer learning about the kingdom and what to do next.
This was the case with Paul. For when he chose to follow Christ and do His will, he opened up a close relationship with Him. As such, he gained access to more revelations and grace than many other apostles.
So he, trembling and astonished, said, “Lord, what do You want me to do?” Then the Lord said to him, “Arise and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do”…Immediately he preached the Christ in the synagogues, that He is the Son of God – Acts 9:6, 20 (NKJV).
For I neither received it from man, nor was I taught it, but it came through the revelation of Jesus Christ – Galatians 1:12 (NKJV).
5. Partnership with God
Seeking God’s kingdom first gives you the opportunity to partner with Him in His kingdom work. And you get to see the greatness of God and to be used greatly by Him. So, He works through you to achieve His plans and purposes.
Moses is a good example of a man that partnered with the Lord to bring out the Israelites from Egypt. So God used him and Moses got to see the greatness of God firsthand. And Moses first sought the kingdom of God when he chose to identify with His people as against his comfort position as Pharaoh’s daughter’s son.
He made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the children of Israel – Psalms 103:7 (NKJV).
Now when he was forty years old, it came into his heart to visit his brethren, the children of Israel. And seeing one of them suffer wrong, he defended and avenged him who was oppressed, and struck down the Egyptian. For he supposed that his brethren would have understood that God would deliver them by his hand, but they did not understand – Acts 7:23-25(NKJV)
6. Demarcation from the Gentiles
The Gentiles run after what to eat, drink and wear. But God said that if you run after His kingdom, the things they run after will naturally be added to you. So, obeying this instruction of Christ differentiates you from the Gentiles. This is because you will do things differently based on the wisdom of God. And you will cheaply get things done by doing things God’s way.
For instance, God instructed the Israelites to go round Jericho with their trumpets seven times, and on the seventh time on the seventh day make a great shout. This they did and the walls of Jericho fell down. Surely, it didn’t make sense but it brought down the wall.
You shall march around the city, all you men of war; you shall go all around the city once. This you shall do six days. And seven priests shall bear seven trumpets of rams’ horns before the ark. But the seventh day you shall march around the city seven times and the priests shall blow the trumpets. It shall come to pass, when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when you hear the sound of the trumpet, that all the people shall shout with a great shout; then the wall of the city will fall down flat. And the people shall go up every man straight before him – Joshua 6:3-5 (NKJV).
7. Enthronement
When you seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, you provoke Him to move you to your high places. So, when you put the Lord first in your life, before your desires and other things, He enthrones you. This is such that all men will see you and praise God.
Our Lord, Jesus Christ sought first the kingdom of His Father by dying on the cross. This He did even when He wished the Lord would let the cup pass Him. And God gave Him a name above every other name, that at His name every knee must bow. And every tongue will confess that Jesus is Lord.
He went a little farther and fell on His face, and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if it is possible, let this cup pass from Me; nevertheless, not as I will, but as You will.” – Matthew 26:39 (NKJV).
Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father – Philippians 2:9-11 (NKJV).
Conclusion
Everyone has the opportunity to seek God first; however, not everyone is seeking Him. Nevertheless, if you choose to seek first the kingdom of God, you position yourself to enjoy the rewards of obeying Him. And these benefits are important for you to live a victorious and successful life here on earth. So, from today seek God first!
Jesus is Lord!
