The Anchor Scripture
For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart. And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, and revealed to the eyes of Him with whom we have to give account – Hebrews 4:12-13 AMP
Now, from the above scripture, we see that the word of God is alive, powerful, a double-edged sword, and a discerner of thoughts and intents of man.
IT’S ALIVE
The word of God is living and exhibits traits of a living being. So, it can reproduce, grow, metabolize, respond to stimuli, adapt to the environment, move, and breathe.
It Reproduces
The word of the Lord has the ability to reproduce itself. This is because when you receive any scripture in your heart and apply it, it has the ability to produce the same result in your life.
For instance, we’re born again by the word of God and this is reproduced and is still being reproduced in many believers.
It was of His own will that He gave us birth [as His children] by the word of truth, so that we would be a kind of first fruits of His creatures [a prime example of what He created to be set apart to Himself—sanctified, made holy for His divine purposes]. – James 1:18 AMP
Having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever – I Peter 1:23 NKJV
It grows
The word of God, like a seed (Luke 8:11), grows when planted in a good ground of the heart. And it grows to produce fruits thirty to hundred folds under favourable conditions suitable for it to grow.
The sower sows the word. But these are the ones sown on good ground, those who hear the word, accept it, and bear fruit: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.
Mark 4:14, 20 NKJV
As such, we grow from baby Christians to mature Christians as we study the word of God and do it. And as it is physically, you can have stunted growth if you’re not fed properly with the right words of the Lord.
It metabolizes
God’s word metabolizes in a believer to give him life. And it moves from being letters to spirit, which the spirit-man of the individual can relate with. This metabolism process is made possible through the mechanism of meditation. So, meditation processes THE WORD in letter form from the head of the individual into his heart in spirit form. It’s after this process that a believer can observe to do what the word says resulting in good success.
This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.
Joshua 1:8 NKJV
It Responds To Stimuli
Faith is a major stimulus that the word of God responds to. When a believer exercises faith in God’s word, it goes into action to deliver his expectations of the WORD.
For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it – Hebrews 4:2 NKJV.
It also responds to declarations. As such, when a believer chooses to declare the word of the Lord from the heart, the word goes into action. This is because you shall have what you say.
For assuredly, I say to you, whoever says to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ and does not doubt in his heart, but believes that those things he says will be done, he will have whatever he says – Mark 11:23 NKJV
It Adapts To Its Environment
Wherever you station the WORD it adapts to it. Now, when you hear the word of God and do nothing with it, it becomes inactive. So, it ends up as just mere head knowledge. However, when the WORD finds itself in the heart, it is loosed to manifest its power to the level to which it’s stirred.
So, when God’s word is left in the head, it’s accused of being powerless, whereas, in the heart, it’s celebrated as being powerful.
But the ones on the rock are those who, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, who believe for a while and in time of temptation fall away. But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience – Luke 8:13, 15 NKJV
It Moves
We have seen that it moves from the head to the heart. However, it also moves to every other part of the body from where it carries out the purpose for which it’s sent. It can get to the deepest parts of our lives to fulfil its purpose.
For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of the soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of both joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and judging the very thoughts and intentions of the heart – Hebrews 4:12 AMP
It breathes
The Words of God are words of eternal life. They breathe life into those that receive them. Also, the word of the Lord breathes life into dead situations and circumstances. Therefore, anyone who cares to search out the Lord’s word and come under its power receives life. Truly, God’s word breathes life into dead organs, and relationships, and turns impossibilities into possibilities.
But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life – John 6:68 NKJV
My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their flesh – Proverbs 4:20, 22 NKJV
