Do you desire a financial breakthrough? As long as we are on earth, we will need money for daily needs and wants. Having more than enough is ideal so that you will be a blessing to others. However, many are barely scratching to meet their needs not to talk of meeting the needs of others. Thank God there is a way out! This post shares the basis of financial prosperity: seedtime and harvest.

Give and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom. For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you – Luke 6:38 (NKJV).

While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, and day and night shall not cease – Genesis 8:22 (NKJV).

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap – Galatians 6:7 (NKJV).

God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His children, so He is not the author of poverty in your life. There are laws governing abundance, which if you adhere to will yield great results to you. These may be different from the world’s system but it works with supernatural abundance, which is far better than the world’s system. One major law of abundance is that of giving and receiving. As long as the earth remains, there will always be seedtime and harvest. There is no harvest without seedtime and where you have sown seeds you can be rest assured that you will have a harvest after a time, having followed the due process.

Giving and Receiving

This is a very important law if you are to experience abundance. You have to sow before you can reap. Until you give, you can’t receive from anybody. Something must leave you first before anything can come to you.  Therefore, if you don’t like giving then you shouldn’t be expecting to receive. Givers will increase more, while those who don’t give, that which they have will go from them (Proverbs 11:24-25). This is a spiritual law which governs everyone, those who practice it eat the fruit of it. You give your way out of lack and want. If you say you don’t have anything to give then, you are not yet ready for abundance. You are to give according to what you have (1 Corinthians 8:12). You must give first!

The Farming Process

The farmers understand seedtime and harvest very well. There is time to sow and time to reap. The farmers sow with the anticipation of a harvest. They work hard, from preparation time to when they get paid for their products. They ensure the soil is fertile enough and they decide how much harvest they desire to receive by the quantity of seeds sown. They maintain the crops throughout the growing period by watering, weeding and ensuring as much as they can that the crops are not infected by pests and diseases. The farmers patiently wait for harvest time. At harvest time, they go in and gather in the produce, store them properly and proceed to having them sold to their buyers.

What to learn from the farming process

If you want financial increase you must learn from and act like the farmers. Financial prosperity is not achieved through wishing, but through hard work following the seedtime and harvest process, which include:

1. Ensuring the ground is fertile.

You don’t sow anyhow; you must ensure that where you are planning to sow your seed is a good ground. You need the help of the Holy Spirit to be able to discern a good ground. Examples of where to sow include: the needy, your local church (where you are getting your spiritual nourishment), missions and ministries that carry out evangelism. You are to give as you are led by the Holy Spirit.

2. Decide your harvest and sow

You give according to your desired harvest. Give sparingly, you reap sparingly; give bountifully and you reap bountifully (2 Corinthians 9:6). You decide your harvest ahead of time by the quantity and quality of your seed. Also, note that if you sow nothing, you will reap nothing.

3. Maintaining the growing crops

You maintain the crops by living in obedience to God’s word. God is the one who gives the increase (1 Corinthians 3:6), so you have to please God for Him to grant you increase. Also, you must keep your mouth from murmuring and complaining. Don’t use your mouth to uproot your seeds. Speak words related to great harvest, for you shall have what you say (Mark 11:23). Furthermore, learn to water your seeds sown with praises unto God (Psalms 67:5-7).

4. Be patient

You must exercise patience for your seeds to grow and be ready for harvest. Many times, people sow and they want to reap the same day or next. This doesn’t work. A farmer plants and patiently waits for harvest time. Don’t be in a haste to be rich, otherwise you will go into wrong acts (Proverbs 28:20) and don’t be weary in your sowing for in due season you will reap if you faint not (Galatians 6:9). You actually have need of patience, that after you have done the will of God (giving) you may obtain the promise (harvest) (Hebrews 10:36).

5. Go and reap

A farmer doesn’t plant and expect another person to go and harvest his produce. He doesn’t leave the crops to rot either in the field when it’s harvest time. You need to consciously harvest your abundance just the same way you consciously plant your seed. Open your mouth and call forth your harvest, ask the angels of God to go forth and gather in your blessings wherever they may be. God said give and men will give into your bosom. So pray that everyone whom God has given to give you should come and give to you.

6. Sow what you want to reap.

A farmer doesn’t sow corn and reap rice. He reaps exactly what he planted. If you sow hospitality you reap hospitality, sow money you get money. Therefore, it is wisdom to sow all you want to reap in life. As it’s said, “do to men what you would want them do to you.”

Pillars of the giving and receiving law

  • Give in obedience to God’s instructions

You are to give according to what God tells you to give (not more or less); otherwise it will be in disobedience. The Lord will not reward disobedience. However, if you give more than God instructs you because you love God and not because someone pressurized you to do so, it is accepted.

  • Give in faith

Give believing that God will multiply your seeds sown. If you give without an expectation you will get nothing. You are to believe that as you give your seed that God will do what He had promised to do for you. I’m not saying that you are to give just for what you will get, but for every seed sown you must have faith that as you have done your part that God will do His own part. Anything done without faith is sin (Romans 14:23).

  • Give cheerfully

Give rejoicing not grudgingly for God loves a cheerfully giver (2 Corinthians 9:7). Give because you love God and you want His kingdom to prosper on earth. Giving grudgingly will terminate the growth of the seed. It’s better not to give than to do so grudgingly because instead of gaining you will lose it.

  • Choose to be a blessing

You are blessed to the level to which you want to be a blessing. God is looking for channels through which to bless people and if you are ready to give to others as He blesses you, the Lord will channel a lot of resources your way.

  • Don’t forget your tithes and offerings

Finally and yet very importantly, you must give your tithes and offerings to the Lord, otherwise you will be robbing God. It is only curse that is reserved for a thief and I believe you won’t want that. Tithing not only makes the Lord to open the windows of heaven to pour out a blessing that you will not have enough room to receive it, it also makes Him to rebuke the devourer for your sake and to preserve your blessings (Malachi 3:8-11).

In conclusion, God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His children, but He will not go contrary to His word. Therefore, if you have been giving and not receiving, examine your seedtime and harvest process bearing in mind what has been discussed above, make amends where necessary and go ahead and keep sowing. Also, if you have not been giving and you want abundance, decide to start giving today and your harvest will sure.
