The Bible has the power to transform individuals and societies, leading to profound personal and social change. Surely, it’s the manual for living, and anyone who lives by it is transformed into the image of God. And this enables the individual to live above the enemy and his tactics. Also, groups are impacted by the moral values that are accepted in the the society.
How does the bible transform?
1. Personal Transformation
Engaging with Scripture and observing to do what it says lead to personal renewal and transformation. This transformation takes place in the spirit, soul and body. This is because by the word we’re regenerated and translated into the kingdom of God’s dear Son, Jesus. And by the word our minds are renewed and our bodies conform to the commands of God.
When you give your life to Christ, your spirit being becomes born again. However, no change will occur in your mind until you study the word of God and choose to follow what is written. Then your mind becomes renewed which ultimately affects your words, thoughts and actions. This eventually causes your body to change into the nature of God; for example, to enjoy total health, without sickness or diseases. This is the will of the Lord
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV)
And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2 (NKJV).
2. Moral and Ethical Reform
The creator of the universe has given man his word, by which we’re to live, move and have our being, and so is the standard of living. Hence, biblical teachings inspire social reforms and movements for justice. So, it is required of us after we receive the word to become the light by which people see and comply accordingly. For we’re to walk righteously and do justice.
He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the LORD require of you
but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8 (NKJV)
But let justice run down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream. Amos 5:24 (NKJV)
3. Community Building
The Bible fosters strong, supportive communities centered on shared values and beliefs. This is because God, through the instructions in the scriptures, encourages family settings of believers. An example of this, we see in
Acts 2:42-47.
And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers. Then fear came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles. Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common, and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need. So continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, they ate their food with gladness and simplicity of heart, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily those who were being saved.
The early church was fellowshipping together, eating and drinking together. Also, by being together, they knew those that were in need and provided for them. And by reason of the increase of the word and love in their midst more people were added to them daily by God.
Furthermore, the scriptures give instructions on how to relate with one another in this family settings. This makes it easier for Christian believers to build and maintain godly communities.
I, therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you to walk worthy of the calling with which you were called, with all lowliness and gentleness, with longsuffering, bearing with one another in love, endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:1-3 (NKJV)
4. Cultural Impact
Biblical principles have influenced art, literature, law, and ethics throughout history. And this is because the word of God is light, and it shine in darkness and darkness cannot figure it out!
Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path – Psalms 119:105 (NKJV)
And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it. – John 1:5 (NKJV)
So, when light shines, every form of darkness or evil is exposed and forced to surrender to light by the power of God. In other words, the scriptures influence the need and understanding of an impactful change, its acceptance and adoption. For example, the abolition of slavery was inspired by Christian teachings.
5. Global Mission
The Bible motivates and guides mission work, leading to the spread of Christianity worldwide. This is because the word of God commands that we spread the gospel worldwide. So, in order to obey this command, believing Christians go into mission work spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ.
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. Acts 1:8 (NKJV)
Also, God declared that it’s not His will that any should perish but that all should have eternal life. And because the unsaved are all over the world, even so will Christians go far and near to see people saved.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9 (NKJV)
