What actually happened when you gave your life to Christ? An understanding of this will enable you to assume your position in Christ. And it will also cause you to exercise your authority, and enjoy your inheritance in Christ. So, this post will tell you significant things that happened to you at salvation.
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him- 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV).
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness – I John 1:7-9 (NKJV).
Introduction
Salvation is God’s gift to mankind. And we are saved by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8-9). And your salvation is in the name of Jesus; for there is no other name given under heaven by which man can be saved (Acts 4:12). But then, what happened when you gave your life to Christ and what should you expect in life?
Significant Things That Happened To You At Salvation
1. All your sins are forgiven and thrown into the sea of forgetfulness
On the cross, Christ bore all your sins and paid the price for your redemption with His blood. Your sins are forgiven, and as the scripture says in Micah 7:19, your sins are thrown into the sea. Such that when you repented of your sins and asked for forgiveness, God forgave and forgot them.
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more – Hebrews 8:12 (NKJV).
He will again have compassion on us, and will subdue our iniquities. You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea – Micah 7:19 (NKJV).
2. Washed by the blood of Jesus
At salvation, the blood of Jesus purified and washed you of all your sins. So that you stand clean before God as though you have never sinned. Such that old things are passed away and all things become new. That is, a clean slate is given to you, and only subsequent things are written on it.
And from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler over the kings of the earth. To Him who loved us and washed us from our sins in His own blood – Revelation 1:5 (NKJV).
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new – 2 Corinthians 5:17 (NKJV).
3. You become the righteousness of God
Having been washed clean, you took up the righteousness of God, so that when God sees you He sees the righteousness of Christ in you. You’re made right with God when you placed your faith in Christ.
For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him- 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJV).
4. Translated from kingdom of darkness to kingdom of light
Before salvation, you were living and operating in the kingdom of darkness. But when you received Jesus Christ as your saviour, God, the Father, moved you from the devil’s territory and dominion to His kingdom. Hence, you will be living and operating according to the kingdom of God’s dear Son Jesus, where you now reside.
He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love – Colossians 1:13 (NKJV).
5. Your name is written in the book of life
Anyone whose name is not found in the book of life is thrown into the lake of fire. So salvation qualified you to have your name written in the book of life. Therefore, it’s important that you thrive to maintain your name in the book of life after salvation. This you achieve through obedience to the word of God.
And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire – Revelation 20:15 (NKJV).
6. Sealed with Holy Spirit
When you believed and received Christ, you received the seal of the Holy Spirit. And He is the mark on you that declares that you belong to God. Also, He is the guarantee of your inheritance in Christ. Furthermore, the Holy Spirit is to teach you all things and bring into your remembrance all that Christ had said to you (John 14:26).
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory – Ephesians 1:13-14 (NKJV).
7. Raised up and seated with Christ in heaven
God quickened you together with Christ, raised you up with Him, and made you sit together with Christ in heaven. And all these He did while you were yet a sinner. So that, at salvation, you now took your rightful place in Christ.
But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus – Ephesians 2:4-6 (NKJV).
8. Far above principalities and powers
Christ sits far above principalities and powers. And if you’re seated with Him in heavenly places, it then means that you are also seated far above principalities and powers. So, it means that in Christ, you’re above the enemy and have authority over him. Hence, you need to understand that the enemy is under your feet when you’re in Christ.
Which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this age but also in that which is to come – Ephesians 1:20-21 (NKJV).
9. Co-heir with Christ
God gave everyone who received Christ the power to become a child of God. And if you’re a child of God, then you’re an heir of God and co-heir with Christ. This means that you share with Jesus His spiritual blessings and inheritance. So, whatever blessing Christ has access to, you also have as a child of God.
And if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together – Romans 8:17 (NKJV).
10. Celebration in heaven
It’s not the will of God that any should perish (2 Peter 3:9). So, when any sinner repents celebration breaks out in heaven. The scripture says that there is joy in heaven when one sinner repents. Therefore, when you gave your life to Jesus, you caused great joy to erupt in heaven. May you continue to cause joy in heaven in Jesus name.
I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance – Luke 15:7 (NKJV).
Conclusion
So, a lot of things happened at salvation in the spiritual realm. The significant things that happened to you at salvation were before God and the devil. And these things determine your victory in life as a Christian. So, though you may not have experienced any instant physical changes, know that a lot changed in the spiritual realm. You’re no more who you used to be and no more under the power of the enemy. Rather, now you’re more than conquerors through Christ who loves you. Congratulations!
Jesus is Lord!
