Have you ever gotten to a Y-junction and you turned off to the wrong road before realizing it? Many people often turn the wrong way when they get to the Y-junctions of their lives. Unfortunately, it takes some of them a long time to get back on track and some others never get back on track. This post tells you what to do to ensure that you turn to the right way when you get to the Y- junctions of your life. And though the Lord gives you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your teachers will not be moved into a corner anymore, but your eyes shall see your teachers. Your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” whenever you turn to the right hand or whenever you turn to the left – Isaiah 30:20-21 (NKJV).

Introduction

We all have Y-junctions to meet in life. However, how prepared and knowledgeable you are ahead of time determines the way you will turn off to. Y-junctions in one’s life are those points of decision making where you don’t have much time to consider the pros and cons of your choices, before choosing the option to follow.

Y-junction is a road intersection that has three arms that are equal in size. Unlike a T-junction, you normally will not need to stop before turning off to the road you want to take. This means you will need to know the route well, otherwise, you may turn off to the wrong road. And in so doing, it will cost you some time and energy to get back on the right road when you realize the mistake. Signpost on the road indicating the presence of Y-junction ahead warns you ahead of time. And it gives you enough time to decide which turn off to continue on ahead of time.

The Holy Spirit serves as our signpost in life that warns us and prepares us for these Y-junctions ahead of time. He is the voice that we hear behind us telling us which way to take. And He ensures that our teachers in life are not hidden from us (Isaiah 30:20-21). Also, the Holy Spirit prepares us as we engage certain channels.

How to prepare for the Y-junctions in life

1. Know the Word

The word of God in you determines what decisions you make per time. It informs the choices you make in life. When you know the will of God concerning a situation, it becomes easy for you to make the right decisions when you are faced with such a situation.

If you desire to do the will of God, you will naturally go by God’s instructions at that point. However, if you lack the knowledge of God’s will for such a situation, you are most likely going to choose the wrong path. This is because the options may all look the same. Also, the wrong one may just seem to be the best option at that point in time.

Example

In Luke 4: 1-4, Jesus had fasted for forty days and was obviously hungry. So when the enemy tempted Him concerning food, there was the probability of Him falling.  However, because He knew the word of God well enough, He didn’t give in to the hunger. So, He disobeyed the devil and obeyed God.

2. Be prayerful

Prayer is a 2-way channel of communication between you and God. You talk to God and He speaks back to you. Through prayers, you become sensitive in the spirit and are able to pick signals from the spirit realm. This enables you to quickly pick God’s signal. Thereby equipping you with the right choice before you get to any Y-junction in your life.

Example

In Matthew 26:31-35, Jesus picked Peter’s temptation and fall in the spirit realm, but Peter didn’t pick them. Jesus warned Peter about it and he did nothing about it. He just declared in the flesh that he wouldn’t take the wrong way. However, in Matthew 26:69-75, Peter faced the Y-junction in his life and he chose the wrong option. Thank God, he was able to get back on track to spearhead the gospel of Christ that has reached us today. Before Peter’s denial of Christ, the Lord revealed Judas’ Y-junction to Judas. He got there and missed it. Unfortunately, unlike Peter when Judas Iscariot missed it, he never got back on track to continue his walk with Christ (Matthew 27:3-5).

3. Always enquire

Many times people don’t enquire from God before they take off on a particular way. So when they get to a Y-junction they have little or no details on which way to continue on. God knows the end from the beginning, it is, therefore, wisdom to enquire from Him on what to do before you take any step. Proverbs 19:2 says that it is not good to be without knowledge and anyone who is hasty will stumble.

Example

King David is a good example of a man who often enquired from God and didn’t miss it each time he did. He didn’t rely on his past battle success method when he was faced with another battle similar to his past battle. He went back to God and enquired again and God gave him a new method which he used to win the battle again (2 Samuel 5:17-25).

4. Walk-in love

Love is a platform on which when you stand you will never stumble (1 Corinthians 13:9). Walking in love is to walk in the Spirit. God is love and Spirt, therefore walking in love is walking in God and also walking in the Spirit. In any case, love is the fulfillment of the law (Romans 13:10) and the scriptures in Galatians 5:22-23 say that against the fruit of the Spirit there is no law. When you walk in love, you live like Christ on earth. And so, when you get to a Y-junction in your life you will naturally continue on the way Jesus would if He were you.

Example

Joseph walked in love in Potiphar’s house and didn’t sin against God or his master, though it landed him in prison. He continued to walk in love and interpreted the dreams that Pharaoh’s servants in prison had, and it landed him before Pharaoh though it was after two years. Again, he walked in love towards the people of Egypt by interpreting and proffering solutions to Pharaoh’s dreams. And this time, it landed him on a governing seat as the prime minister of Egypt, second in command to Pharaoh (Genesis 39 – Genesis 41:1-44). It pays to walk in love.

Conclusion

Y-junctions in life are real, and preparation enables you to make the right choice when you get there. Always be prepared and you will always continue on the right way when you get to any Y-junction in your life.
