How often do you make for God first? Your future depends on how much you value the Lord and consider Him first before any other. Therefore, the gateway to your breakthrough and success in life is in putting God first. This post is to charge you to reconsider your priorities for a better tomorrow.

And Elijah said to her, “Do not fear; go and do as you have said, but make me a small cake from it first, and bring it to me; and afterward make some for yourself and your son. For thus says the Lord God of Israel: ‘The bin of flour shall not be used up, nor shall the jar of oil run dry, until the day the Lord sends rain on the earth.’ ” – 1 Kings 17:13-14 (NKJV).

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you – Matthew 6:33 (NKJV).

Many Christians are always in a hurry to ask God to do one thing or the other for them, but they seldom ask the Lord for what He wants them to do for Him. Also they rarely seek to please Him first. So, when the answers are not forth coming, they become offended in Christ. Unfortunately, the Lord is not going to lower His principles in other to please a certain group of people.

Make For Me First

God demands that you make for Him first before you can receive your heart desires from Him (Matthew 6:33). So, as much as the Lord gives us richly all things to enjoy (1 Timothy 6:17), they won’t manifest in your life until you learn to make for Him first. Truly, mercy drops may fall but they can’t satisfy you. Therefore, no matter how much you need anything, you must humble yourself to get it the Lord’s way; it’s not negotiable.

In 1 Kings 17:8-16, the woman of Zarephath had to make for Elijah first as God commanded through Elijah before she could enjoy abundance of food. Though the meal was her last she still had to prepare for Elijah first. However, as she obeyed the Lord, the meal now lasted till the end of the famine. So, your obedience must come first, no matter how inconvenient it may seem, before your breakthrough or success becomes a reality.

Furthermore, in the Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13), Jesus Christ taught us to put God first before our needs. He said we should pray that God’s will be done on earth before we ask for our daily bread. Also, He showed us an example by seeking to please the Father to the point of death, and God, the Father, rewarded Him with the name that is above every other name (Philippians 2:5-11)

Reasons To Put God First

1. He commanded it

God commands that you seek Him first (Matthew 6:33); it’s not optional. So, He is either Lord over all or none at all in your life. Furthermore, to put God secondary is demeaning and will not attract Him to your situation no matter how much you cry. So, if God is Lord over your life, then obey Him and put Him first.

2. Proof of your love

If you love the Lord you will put Him first, and obey His commandments (John 14:15). Furthermore, when you love God, you will want to please Him; and making for Him first is a major way of pleasing Him.

3. Destroys the selfish attitude

Man’s nature is very selfish. Unfortunately, Christians carry this attitude into their relationship with the Father. As result, Christians want Him to satisfy them first before they will serve Him. However, God doesn’t work like that, you give first before you’re given (Luke 6:38). So, making for the Lord first over time destroys this attitude completely. This is because it subdues the flesh and makes it subject to God’s instructions.

4. For Breakthrough and success

The Almighty one has promised that when you seek His kingdom first, He would add every other thing you desire to you (Matthew 6:33), including breakthrough and success. So making for Him first moves Him to make for you too. Therefore, that breakthrough you desire is waiting for you to make for the Lord first.

5. You are His servant

As a child of God, you are to serve Him and as servants you are to make for Him first (Luke 17:7-10). Furthermore, a servant is at the beck and call of the master, serving him unconditionally. However, in the case of our Master Jesus Christ, your service has great rewards (Hebrews 11:6, Exodus 23:25-26).

How To Make For Him First

1. Word study and prayer

One major way to make for God first is by studying the word and praying. This entails talking to and hearing from Him first before you talk to or hear from people, both early in the mornings or during any challenge. Also, it means attaching great importance to word study and prayers (Acts 6:4) as you do to your daily meals.

2. Prompt obedience

You are to quickly obey any instructions He gives you even if it demands that you stop whatever you are doing at that time. Abraham practiced prompt obedience and he enjoyed all round blessings (Genesis 12:1-4, 24:1), including breakthroughs and successes.

3. Kingdom investment

This involves making out time within your schedule to go about God’s business, which basically centers on soul winning (Mark 16:15-16). This includes evangelism, prayers for souls, hospital visitations and welfare activities, and so on (Matthew 25:35-36, 40).

Conclusion

Making for God first is a thing we must imbibe as a lifestyle if we want to enjoy God’s interventions and provisions, breakthroughs and successes. Furthermore, it is cheaper and faster to make for the Lord first, instead of going through a lot of stress, expenditure, time and energy wasting, only to come back to God and His initial command to make for Him first. Therefore, I employ you today to always put God first that He may add every other thing to you.
