Are you a vessel of honour or dishonour? Are you prepared to be used for every good work? God is looking for those who are ready for the work He has at this time. However, many people are not consciously preparing for it. This post tells you about preparing to be used of God.

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work – 2 Timothy 2:20-21 (KJV).

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man – Ecclesiastes 12:13 (KJV).

Many believing Christians give their lives to Jesus Christ and stop there. They do not purge themselves nor prepare themselves for God to use them. They forget that the whole duty of man is to obey the commandments of God.

The Creator of the whole universe works on earth through men; some to honour and some to dishonor. What each one is used for is determined by the state of the individual. For believing Christians, God ordained them as vessels of honour, but each person ultimately decides what he or she is used for by the level of preparation he or she makes.

The kingdom of the Almighty is not meat and drink, but peace, righteousness and joy in the Holy Ghost (Romans 14:17). Some Christians want Christ and the devil in their lives at the same time, this however cannot be; you either serve the Lord or mammon (Matthew 6:24). You need to purge yourself of all carnality and build up yourself in your most holy faith (Jude 20). No one can do it for you!

How to Prepare Yourself

  1. Be thirsty for righteousness (Matthew 5:6)

When you thirst for righteousness, the scripture says you will be filled. Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to the people (Proverbs 14:34). A thirst for righteousness makes you to do all that is within your power to ensure you get it. It will move you to seek God seriously and to engage in spiritual exercises that will build you up (1 Timothy 4:7, Acts 24:16).

  1. Prayer and Word study (Acts 6:1-4).

Studying the word of God reveals to you who you are in Christ, your inheritance in Christ (Acts 20:32) and teaches you how to enjoy victory and success in life. It enables you to stand before God without shame, being approved of God (2 Timothy 2:15). Word study and prayers release wisdom, revelation in the knowledge of God and cause your eyes of understanding to be enlightened (Ephesians 1:17-18). The apostles knew they couldn’t do without studying the word and praying if they were to prepare themselves for the master’s use, and so delegated the issue of serving tables to others so they could focus on them.

  1. Prayer and fasting (Isaiah 58:6-8)

This builds up your spiritual sensitivity to God and empowers you to flow in righteousness. It subdues your fleshly desires and empowers your spirit man, which is connected with the Holy Spirit (Proverbs 20:27). Also, it enables you to be spiritually minded, thereby making you to speedily pick God’s instructions as He speaks to you. This is because your spiritual eyes and ears are opened as a result of prayer and fasting.

In conclusion, so much is to be accomplished by God through His people and He wants to use you as a vessel of honour; however, He will be hindered if you are not prepared. Therefore, prepare yourself with the points given above, purge and make yourself fit to be used by your Master today, and the glory and honour that follow obedience will be yours to enjoy.
