Introduction

This chapter gives an account of John’s ministry: his preaching in preparation for Christ’s ministry, and his baptism of Christ. Also, it gives the genealogy of Jesus Christ. So, please watch the video to listen to the reading of the passage.

Verse 3

John the Baptist’s mission was to preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sin. This he did thereby preparing the way for Christ.

Verse 8-9

We’re admonished to bring forth fruit worthy of repentance; otherwise, you will be in the danger of having your life cut short.

Verse 10-14

Every one of us has an area of life to improve on to align with God’s perfect will for us. So go to God and ask Him the areas to amend or improve on.

Verse 16-17

Jesus Christ is the one who baptizes with the Holy Ghost and fire. So the baptism of the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues is done by Jesus. So ask Christ to baptize you, believe and you will receive the baptism of the Holy Ghost. Also,  Jesus is the one who will separate unbelievers from believers and send them to the unquenchable fire. Furthermore, John stated clearly that Christ is superior to him and mightier than he is; thereby, pointing them to Jesus. Truly, Christ is the Way, the Truth, and the Life

Verse 21

A lesson to pick from the baptism of Christ is that you should not go for water baptism casually. Rather, you should go praying, expecting open heaven, a touch from God.

Verse 23-38

From the genealogy of Christ, you can see that Jesus is the Son of David, from the tribe of Judah, and a descendant of Abraham. And all these were as prophesied in the Old Testament concerning Christ, the Saviour that was to come.

Conclusion

The relationship between John, the baptist, and Jesus Christ, and their ministries were clearly defined. And John fulfilled his part of preparing the way for Christ to come and fulfil His own part of saving the world. So, heed to John’s call if you haven’t done so and connect with Jesus Christ as your Saviour today.
